Alt Propulsion Is Now AltSci

Alt Propulsion is now the Alternative Science Network (AltSci). As we approach our sixth anniversary and look ahead to 2027, we’re bringing a broader range of science and technology into the conversation, creating new ways to connect, and strengthening our commitment to the people whose ideas and experiments make this community possible.

From American Antigravity to Alt Propulsion

In 2002, Tim Ventura launched American Antigravity to document a community of scientists, innovators, and builders pursuing novel propulsion and energy technologies. The website grew into a widely recognized resource for research into antigravity and field-effect propulsion, connecting independent experimenters with established researchers and introducing their work to audiences around the world.

Through interviews, research coverage, and international media appearances, American Antigravity helped bring attention to an unusual and determined community: people willing to investigate difficult questions, build experiments, and explore technologies that often existed at the edges of mainstream scientific discussion.

In November 2020, Tim joined Mark Sokol, Jeremy Rys, Jeremiah Popp, and other contributors to bring that vision into a new era with the launch of Alt Propulsion and the APEC conference. Alongside the growing archive of knowledge, the community now had a regular gathering place where researchers could present their work, compare ideas, and connect directly with one another.

What began as an online gathering during pandemic travel restrictions demonstrated how well a remote conference could serve a geographically scattered community. Scientists, engineers, and independent builders could participate from their laboratories, workshops, and homes, sharing their work with people they might otherwise never have met.

Alt Propulsion became a central meeting place for breakthrough propulsion research, featuring many of the field’s leading researchers and independent innovators. Like American Antigravity before it, the conference attracted media attention and helped a specialized community share its work with a much wider audience.

A Broader Home for a Growing Community

Over the past six years, our conversations have grown beyond propulsion. The people who come together to discuss gravity, spaceflight, and experimental physics often share interests in energy, consciousness, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, and other questions about the universe and our place within it.

The Alternative Science Network gives those interests room to grow. Our expanding focus encompasses advanced propulsion, energy, SETI and UAP research, consciousness, artificial intelligence, longevity, and other emerging areas of science and technology.

Across these subjects, we’re interested in the people doing the work: developing ideas, building apparatus, running experiments, and sharing what they learn. We want to make their research accessible, help people understand its possibilities and open questions, and encourage the connections that allow new projects to take shape.

This transition also comes at an important moment for our community. Some of the independent websites and discussion forums that once brought people together have grown quiet or disappeared. Longtime innovators are retiring or stepping back from public life, while a new generation of researchers and builders is arriving with fresh ideas and new tools.

Connecting these generations is an essential part of our mission. The experience of those who helped establish these fields can give newcomers a stronger foundation, while new participants bring the curiosity and initiative that will carry the work forward.

Connecting People and Preserving Their Work

As AltSci takes shape, we’re working to make it easier to participate between conference events. We’re integrating our Discord community more closely with the website and conference, providing a place for ongoing discussion, messaging, and forum posts where members can share projects, ask questions, and find others with similar interests.

We’re also expanding our written coverage alongside conference videos. Detailed articles, interviews, and profiles give readers another way to discover the innovators in our community, understand their research, and return to the ideas that interest them.

That work serves a lasting purpose. Experiments, technical knowledge, and personal histories can become difficult to find as websites disappear and researchers leave public life. By documenting the people, their methods, and what they’ve learned, we hope to preserve a useful foundation for the next generation.

This community has always been a group effort, built by people willing to think differently, share their time, and pursue ambitious ideas. Every presenter, experimenter, organizer, and participant has helped make it possible.

Our goal with AltSci is to give that community a stronger home: a place to discover emerging science, connect with the people exploring it, and contribute to what comes next.
